JOINMUN 2013 Surmounting Prejudice Building Conscience

This is my second JOINMUN and my 3rd MUN experiences. Before JOINMUN 2013, I used to attend JOINMUN 2012 in Arab League Council, represented Saudi Arabia and in Indonesia MUN 2012 I represented Gabon in Economy and Social Council (ECOSOC). It was my honour to participate in a big International conference once more in JOINMUN as a delegate of Azerbaijan in United Nations Security Council, the strongest body in UN. Thanks for all opportunities so I can attend MUN three times.

What is MUN?
MUN which is Model United Nations is a form of United Nations simulation conference in order to increase young people awareness to International issues. In MUN, we learn how to do a good research, speech, debate, negotiate even though draft a resolution. Each council will be given one or two topic(s) which should be discussed and at the end of conference, we should make a resolution related to the topic area. This resolution is a proposal from young people to answer the world's problem, then the resolution will be given to Ban-Ki-Moon, UN Secretary general as a suggestion.
First MUN held in Harvard, called as HNMUN (Harvard Nations Model UN) which is being the most prestigious MUN in the world. In 2014, HNMUN will hold a 60th year HNMUN. In Indonesia, MUN identic with international relations students or law students, actually it is not! Because many problems in this world are not just political or law cases but also health, economy, social, etc.

JOINMUN 2013
Discussing about MUN, JoinMUN is not the only one MUN Conference in Indonesia. Many MUNs in Indonesia such as Indonesia MUN which is held by University of Indonesia and Jakarta MUN which is held by ISAFIS (Indonesian Student Associations for International Studies). JoinMUN is one of that prestigious MUN in Indonesia, named Jogja International MUN, held by Gadjah Mada University. All committee sessions were held in Inna Garuda Hotel, the 4th stars hotel in Jogjakarta. In each MUN, the councils may be vary, depend on the committee. This year, 2nd Session of JoinMUN is come back with theme: "Surmounting Prejudice, Building Conscience". There were 4 councils in this JoinMUN 2013 which are General Assembly, Arab League, ECOSOC, and UN Security Council with 4 chairpersons from different nations and 4 eligible local co-chairpersons from Gadjah Mada University. They are: Alexandre Tangton (Faculte Universite Saint Louis, Belgium) with Adisty Bahri conducted Arab League, Nikita Consul (MIT, USA) with Nyimas Giakara conducted ECOSOC, Matt Yeldham (University of Sidney, Australia) with Fajri Matahati Muhammadin conducted UN Security Council and Hafidzi Razali (International Islamic University, Malaysia) with Rangga Aditya Dachlan conducted General Assembly.

UNSC
UNSC stands for United Nations Security Council or in Indonesian we call it as "Dewan Keamanan PBB". It is the strogest body in UN. This council has 5 permanent members which are France, People's Republic of China, Russian Federation, United Kingdom and United States. This council also has 10 non permanent members.
In this council I got Azerbaijan, a non permanent member from Eastern Europe. All of us discussing the same topic which is "Senkaku/ Diaoyu Disputed Islands". Hot debates were out in this council, released two big alliances: US and PRC. Me? Well, as non permanent member, I should act neutrally. That condition brought this council to have 2 working papers and 2 draft resolutions.
At the last day, in 5th session of conference we (all delegates) tried to merged both DR to have one Resolution. And Yes! Me made it!

UNSC is an unforgettable council for me. It had lots of fun, and hot debates (sure!). Being in UNSC made us so special because beside this is a small council (consist of 15 members, but only 13 delegates came), to be a delegate of UNSC isn't easy. First, you must have some experiences in MUN, you must have a good skills in MUN which are negotiating, debating, also drafting. And when I was in UNSC for the first time, I felt the high pressure. Really, most of delegates here ever won a trophy in some MUNs. *phew*

But,....
The relationship among us was in the air. Friendship and fun was there. Even after the 1st session, we fun, and chit chat together. Then, after 2nd session (still in the first day) we made a Gangnam Style Video. OMG! I thought all of us were tired after a long day did hot debates and all of us needed such kind of entertainment, and we made it by ourselves. Two most unbelieveable things are:
1. Our chair, Matt who suggested that idea "Gangnam" and He took a part in arraged our positon. And...He was the centre-point from this video with his funny style. LOL.
2. I can't tell you, just see this video out: https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=10200641403550853

Well, I'm gonna miss this council, every moments there, our friendship.
Debate each others, Drafting together, Gossiping together, Watching Ramayana Ballet together, Have fun together. I really really really miss those moments. Thanks guys!

Here are some photos of us there, in Jogjakarta 2-5 May 2013:

Kisah Cinta Valentine

“Aaaaaaakkkkkkkkk, kamu siapa? Masuk kamar orang seenaknya, memang siapa yang suruh?!”
“Hmm...anu...saya disuruh tante Maya membangunkan kak Abi. Nama saya Valentine. Tadi kata tante Maya, kalau Kak Abi tanya-tanya tentang saya nanti akan dijelaskan sendiri oleh Tante Maya. Sekarang kak Abi disuruh tante sarapan, sudah ditunggu. Permisi kak.”

***

Valentine, saya memilih engkau menjadi istri saya.
